34 and a half weeks

By Jen, 28 September, 2006, No Comment

Well, there is not long to go, and still so much to get done!! I am doing well, the doctor has said that I am very healthy and everything is progressing towards a natural birth. We go and pre-register at the clinic where I will deliver on Saturday. We still dont have a nursary and there are currently workmen fixing pipes in our kitchen… but hopefully Baby Mann will stay nice and snug inside until we are a little more ‘ready’!

NCM Conference

By Jen, 28 September, 2006, No Comment

Last week Doug and Luis Meza (Regional Compassionate Ministries Coordinator) went Moyobamba (a Jungle town) to hold a district NCM conference. It was originally planned that I would go and help Luis, but with the pregnancy quite so advanced, I couldn’t!

65 people from the Nor Oriente District attended the event that lasted two days. Luis and Doug conducted training and discussion time on themes such as the biblical basis for Compassionate Ministries, how to apply compassionate ministries in local churches, NCM with children, involving youth in NCM etc. This is a district that is actively working at providing a retirement plan for its pastors, a health insurance scheme providing health care to pastors and families from a Nazarene owned clinic, and are looking to expand their efforts for every church to be reaching out to their community with Compassionate Ministries.

New Volunteers Arrive!

By Jen, 20 September, 2006, No Comment

Last Wednesday Dale and Leah Rector arrived in Lima to help us with work here at the field office. They will be staying for three months, and helping with a variety of things from finances, fix it jobs on the properties here in Lima, help with guests and teams passing through Lima, and of course helping relieve Jen of her responsibilities when Baby Mann arrives :) We are very thankful that they are here. Please pray that they will have an enjoyable and fulfilling time volunteering here in Peru.

Evangelism Conference

By Jen, 4 September, 2006, No Comment

As the interim Jesus Film Coordinator for Peru, Jen attended the Evangelism conference this weekend in Argentina. The conference was very inspiring and a great opportunity to get to know people from the rest of South America who are also working with the Jesus Film. It was encouraging to see the statistics for church membership, new churches and ordained elders on the increase in many of the countries; however we all wanted to see growth in all areas in all of the countries. The new strategy of the regional staff is to train and disciple leaders in all of the countries through a series of week long theoretical and practical courses in 9 different ministry areas. These 10 or so leaders will then go back and teach the material over a year in small group setting to 10 more people, and this cycle will continue. This weekend we specifically talked about the training in Evangelism and retaining of new converts. Now our task here in Peru is to find the right person to take over new role of Evangelism Coordinator (which umbrellas the Jesus Film), and make sure that they can go to the Evangelism course at the regional office in January.
